Shopping campaigns use:
Correct Answer
Shopping ads created from product data in Google Merchant Center
Key takeaways
Shopping ads are built automatically from Merchant Center product data, not from written creative.
The Merchant Center account must be linked to Google Ads before the campaign can serve.
There are no positive keywords in Shopping, because matching comes from the product data.
Why is this the correct answer?
Shopping campaigns have no ad creative of their own. The ads are generated from the product data you submit to Google Merchant Center, and the campaign in Google Ads only decides bidding, budget and which of those products are eligible. That is why the setup order matters: the Merchant Center account must be linked to the Google Ads account before a Shopping campaign can use the feed at all. Get the feed right and the ads improve, because there is no headline or description to write.
Why are the other options wrong?
B) Ads performing local and nearby services
Local service promotion is a different product, Local Services Ads, which runs on its own verification and lead-based model and has nothing to do with a Merchant Center product feed.
C) Keyword-targeted rich media ads
Keyword-targeted rich media describes Display advertising. Shopping campaigns are not keyword-targeted at all, which is why you can add negative keywords but not positive ones.
D) A combination of text ads and Product Listing Ads formats
This mixes two formats. A Shopping campaign serves Shopping ads only; it does not also generate text ads, which belong to a Search campaign.
Frequently asked questions about this topic
How do I link Merchant Center to Google Ads?
In Merchant Center, open Settings and then Linked accounts, find the Google Ads tab and enter your Google Ads customer ID to send a link request. An admin on the Google Ads account then approves it under Tools, Setup, Linked accounts. Until that link is approved, a Shopping campaign has no products to serve.
Why can't I add keywords to a Shopping campaign?
Because Google matches Shopping ads to queries using the product data itself: the title, description, attributes and category. You influence matching by improving those fields, and you restrict it with negative keywords, which Shopping campaigns do support.
